Just like many, my Grandfather gave me an appreciation of wood and the enjoyment of working with wood to create.  After3 years of high school woodshop, I began to understand the value of using good tools and how to take care of them and what they can do for me.

Although I had used a lathe in high school, I didn’t see the enjoyment of its use until after I retired.  In 2007 a friend invited me to visit a meeting of the Alamo Woodturning and I was hooked.  After the meeting I purchased a Jet 1221 lathe and I was off.  I took a class at Woodcraft to learn pen making.  Later, I took a 5 day class with Glenn Lucas at Craft Supply in Utah.  Best investment in my woodturning journey!  My other best woodturning decision was the purchase of a (Made in USA) Robust Lathe at SWAT.

In 2013 I established our local Chapter in IAP (International Association of Penturners) and from that we created the Alamo Penturners Chapter growing to over 24 members today.

I enjoy the variety of items that can be turned, limited only by your imagination and inspiration. I have experimented with the turning of bowls, platters, boxes, pens, tops, and other gifts, using the vast variety of woods, acrylics, and other materials.

If you need me, I’m out in the shop or studio, or shed - makin’ shavings!
