I started turning in late 2014. I took Louis Jordan’s “Learn To Turn” class at the San Antonio Woodcraft store, and I was hooked! Since then I have taken several other classes at Woodcraft, and a week-long course in Utah, to improve my skills. I also enjoy going to SWAT in Waco each year to see the demonstrations and talk to vendors. Since I retired from my programming and computer support job in 2016, I have found a lot more time to play in our shop. I enjoy turning many different things – pens, sewing items, handles, candlestick holders, vases, bowls, lidded boxes, whatever I can make round on my lathe. I especially enjoy turning small things, like tiny bowls and boxes. The members of the Alamo Woodturners club have been my inspiration. I have learned so much from these folks, and really appreciate the support and willingness to help that seem to be the central thread that holds this group together. I want to continue learning and improving my skills, and hopefully be able to “pay it forward” as new turners come along.
